A study presented by Professor Nigel Bundred at the European Cancer Conference in Amsterdam Bay, revealed that scientists have tested the effect of better medicines such as Herceptin and Lapatinib in breast carcinoma.
These two drugs already used in the treatment of breast cancer, but this is the first time they have combined them together and used before surgery and chemotherapy.
What they discovered was that the drugs were able to eliminate some types of breast cancer in only 11 days, reports Gazeta Express.
Funded by ‘Cancer Research UK’, scientists used these medicines to combat a protein called HER2, which affects the growth of cancer cells.
What made this particular approach is that it eliminates the need for chemotherapy and surgery. Temporary side effects like hair loss, nausea and fatigue are also avoided, making the treatment less harmful to the body and more effective.
Chemotherapy is not entirely effective, nor is it the right choice for most patients.
